Ciclovía returns for the fifth year in a row to Salinas, Ca! On Sunday, October 15th, from 9 am to 1 pm, 1.5 miles of Alisal Street, from Main Street to Sanborn Street, will open up for community members to enjoy recreational activities, such as running, biking, skating, dancing, playing and many others.

This is the only fully youth-led Ciclovía event in the country since its initial founding in Bogotá, Colombia in 1976 it has been replicated in cities across America.

Ciclovía is a Spanish term meaning “bike path”. It’s purpose is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where families can come together to enjoy accessible recreation, establish a platform that encourages residents to adopt healthier habits and counteract major health issues like diabetes and obesity, positively impact economic development in Salinas through a sustainable event that promotes local businesses and exposes them to participants, and foster community-building which will unite Salinas.

The first Ciclovía was piloted in 2013 with the support of Building Healthy Communities East Salinas and The California Endowment. Much more than an opportunity for families from both East Alisal and West Alisal to share a common space, this is an event where youth have the opportunity to take on leadership opportunities from start to finish.
