Ciclovía returns for the ninth year to Salinas, CA! Stay tuned for more information as Ciclovía returns March 20, 2022 from 10:00AM-2:00PM. We hope you can join us during this great community event.

This is the only fully youth-led Ciclovía event in the country since its initial founding in Bogotá, Colombia in 1976 it has been replicated in cities across America.

Ciclovía is a Spanish term meaning “bike path”. It’s purpose is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where families can come together to enjoy accessible recreation, establish a platform that encourages residents to adopt healthier habits and counteract major health issues like diabetes and obesity, positively impact economic development in Salinas through a sustainable event that promotes local businesses and exposes them to participants, and foster community-building which will unite Salinas.

The first Ciclovía was piloted in 2013 with the support of Building Healthy Communities East Salinas and The California Endowment. Much more than an opportunity for families from both East Alisal and West Alisal to share a common space, this is an event where youth have the opportunity to take on leadership opportunities from start to finish.

Hi! I live in the Central Coast of California, and I am originally from Bogotá. I grew up with ciclovía and feel so excited to see it start happening in the US. I do want to organize a ciclovia in the San Luis Obispo area and would be extremely appreciative if I could get in touch of anyone that help organized it in Salinas.

    Best best wishes,
    Sil Sua

      Hello Sil,

Happy New Year! I just received your message from one of my co workers. Excited to hear that there is interest in more Ciclovías in other communities. If you would like to talk further about this topic, the best way to get a hold of me is through my work email gabrielabhc@actioncouncil.org. Hope to hear from you soon.
