Ciclovía returns for the eighth year in a row to Salinas, CA! This year Ciclovía will be a bit different following Covid-19 guidelines. We will have a weekend full of activities for the community to join us in this year. The fitness classes will take place Friday, October 30th-Sunday, November 1st at Natividad Creek Park.
This is the only fully youth-led Ciclovía event in the country since its initial founding in Bogotá, Colombia in 1976 it has been replicated in cities across America.
Ciclovía is a Spanish term meaning “bike path”. It’s purpose is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where families can come together to enjoy accessible recreation, establish a platform that encourages residents to adopt healthier habits and counteract major health issues like diabetes and obesity, positively impact economic development in Salinas through a sustainable event that promotes local businesses and exposes them to participants, and foster community-building which will unite Salinas.
The first Ciclovía was piloted in 2013 with the support of Building Healthy Communities East Salinas and The California Endowment. Much more than an opportunity for families from both East Alisal and West Alisal to share a common space, this is an event where youth have the opportunity to take on leadership opportunities from start to finish.
